Jasper Jones

Craig Silvey’s 2009 novel, Jasper Jones, is – hands-down – an excellent story; a book in which there is an abiding empathy that compels the reader until the very end.

Straightforwardly written, Craig Silvey uses all his energy on mincing details so that characters rise from the page. Sculpted in the same vein as Harper Lee’s, To Kill A Mocking Bird, Jasper Jones flies without fear into the territory of backwater prejudice and the end of childhood innocence. An Australian must. A treasure indeed. A superb read.
