I know very little about Margreit Zwarthoed other than the fact that she is a superb photographer of the insignificant. “not more than 100 steps from…” is an album of 95 mercurial and textured shots that demonstrate just what it is her eye can pick out of the seemingly unimportant. It is the art of capturing the everyday, the skill of depicting the things we don’t notice, and that are of no interest. Her work is a mantra to texture and colour and framing and balance. From very little she makes much. From the ‘not worth mentioning’ she makes visual poetry.
Even more captivating is a gallery of her work, 18 photographs curated by Neil Johansson.
